Suttocide
Suttocide is a trade name for sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, which is a broad spectrum antimicrobial. It has become more widely used in personal care products, especially those claiming to be organic, as it’s derived from glycine, which is an amino acid that occurrs naturally. It is even claimed by some products to be a ‘Natural preservative’. This practise of calling synthetic chemical that derived from natural materials is also known as greenwashing and is deceptive practive by companies wanting to cash in on the organic movement.
Testing of Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate has found it to be nonsensitizing, non-irritating, non-toxic by skin absorption and non-mutagenic. However sodium hydroxymethylglycinate has been shown to decompose in water to form Formaldehyde and sodium glycinate. Formaldehyde is classified as a human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, and for this reason it is recommened to avoid products that have it as a preservative.
The only guarantee that a product doesn’t have any ingredients like this is check if the whole product is certified organic. The worlds first certified organic skin care range is Miessence which is created by ONE Group.

Hi there, I am hoping you can help me understand Suttocide a little better, I have only come across your website that says it not good. Where did you get your information from and could you pass it on as I am very interested in the studies behind your claims. I am currently using a product with Suttocide in it so would appreciate your knowledge to make a sound decision.
regards Sally
